I'm a college student with an interest in film. Another college student and myself created a site where we showcase short films that are 60 seconds or less. We did this A.) to have smaller download times, B.) Create the challenge of breaking down story telling to it's most basic form, and C.) because it requires less time to create each stort. Anyway, I would love for anyone to visit the site and tell us what they think of our work as beginner film makers using basic low budget equipment. The URL is below:

Good stuff. The photography in 'Howdy?' is pretty good too. What kind of set-up did you have?

I get a lot of comments on Howdy. As for the set up, it was about as basic as you can get. A Sony Handycam Video8 XR on a tripod. The only time it wasn't on a tripod was when the camera was rolling on the ground while the victim was running away. For that we used an erector set with wheels and broomstick pushing it from the back. :-) And for the lighting, it was the lights already in the home. Luckily there was a lot of track lighting for us to move around and use to our advantage.

I thought the 60 sec shorts were great.
The voice in Howdy is creepy!
60 seconds is a good amount of time to cram in all the creative you can... I like the reverse playback concept in Murder?

Thanks for the comments. I'm pleased Howdy's voice was creepy for ya. Means I did a good job. And I agree about the 60 second time frame. It's hard to enjoy a short movie online when it's 8 min. long and 25 MB. People want the story to kick into gear right away.

Interesting stuff, very nice website. The shorts were cool, I'd just work on facial expressions, because some of the facial expressions in Howdy didn't work as well as they could. Other than that, good stuff!

Pacing is everything... we just made a "short" that was meant to be ten mins long... however things sort of gor carried away and ended up being 20 mins long. (we couldn't cut it down any further, as it would have left big plot gaps).
However alot of people told us that we screwed up the pacing of the first ten minutes, so everyone got bored! - (weird thing is, everyone loved the last ten minutes?!)
so we've learnt alot from that... next time, we concentrate on the pacing more!
BTW - I just showed 'murder?' to a mate of mine... he thought it was well clever!

Ah yes, my expressions...I need some acting lessons for sure.
Pacing is key, indeed! When we filmed howdy, it was well over a minute. But we had to make it 60 seconds, so we kept chopping away until it fit. And I think it was a better movie for it. We were forced to seriously trim the fat.

I especially liked the use of ghostbusters and thundercats...how very retro of you. A very nice site, good quality vids too. Although to nit-pick, they're all quite similar in theme. I'd like to see you guys try something else, just for a little variety. Keep up the good work.
